I am a teacher. Can I write off school supplies on my taxes?

I purchased needed supplies for the class. I paid for the supplies myself because it exceeded the school budget for my class

Yes.  You may qualify for a maximum of $250 deduction if you have paid for any unreimbursed expenses from teaching. 

To get to the deduction for teacher expenses in TurboTax online program:

• Sign in to your account and select Pick up where you left off
• Select tab Federal Taxes / Deductions and Credits
• Scroll down to Employment Expenses- Teacher (Educator) Expenses, select Start 
• On-screen, Teacher Expenses, select Yes to continue
