Do I need to file taxes this year if I only have a 1098-T and my income was only $1,200 because I am a full time graduate student.

You must file income taxes if  generally : 

1. Your unearned income was more than $1,050 

2. Your earned income was more than $12,000 

3. Earned more than $400 in self-employment income 

If you are 65 years old or blind, the amounts are slightly higher. 

Also if you enrolled in healthcare coverage via the marketplace you and received a premium advance credit (you must file) 

The best thing to do would be to input your numbers and see if you have a tax liability. Everything would be taken into consideration and it would specific to you and not generalized.
