Do I need to file a 1098t if my tuition was completely paid for and then some, by scholarships and grant money?

I am a 20 year old full time student and I am filing on my own with no dependents. I was in school for one semester in 2017. All my tuition and books were covered with scholarships and I received grant money back that was left over. Do I need to wait to receive my 1098T and file it?

Yes.

The 1098T may have more information on it that you need for later questions.  As this is your first year, I would wait to be safe.

See this answer to the same question from Carl (a superuser) that goes into detail about why its best to wait.
