Can you take a deduction for education expenses ( textbooks) that you purchased for an adult family member ( not your dependent) who is enrolled in college?

Can you take a deduction for education expenses ( textbooks) that you purchased for an adult family member ( not your dependent) who is enrolled in college?
no college expenses are limited toThe eligible student is yourself, your spouse or a dependent you list on your tax return.
The expenses you pay for the student though are eligible to be claimed by the student or parent whom is qualified to claim the student.
