Can tuition paid for child's education to a private school be claimed as a deduction.

It depends on your child's education level...For federal tax purposes, education expenses (of any kind) for K-12 grades are not deductible. Some states do offer the deduction, be sure to go through your state interview questions. 

Private school post-secondary tuition may be deductible if is paid to a qualified school.  A qualified school is any college, university, or other post-secondary educational institution eligible to participate in a student aid program Administered by the U.S. Department of Education. Please check online, using U.S. Federal Student Aid link to check if your private school is a qualified educational institution for tax education purposes.

Note: You may be able to deduct tuition as Dependent Care Credit if it was paid in order for you to work or go to school as a full-time student (the child must be under the age of 13). Please visit:
