Can the parent claim tuition expense for child and the books and other expenses were covered by the child?
Yes, as long as the child is being claimed as the parent's dependent. It doesn't matter if the tuition was paid by the student, the parent, the other parent, some other friend or relative or a student loan. Tuition paid by tax free grants is not eligible (although there may be a loop hole around that)
