Can my parent claim extra scholarship money as their own?

In 2017, I received about 6000 in excess scholarship money, tuition already paid for. My parents claim me as dependent on their tax return and my parents are in charge of keeping the excess scholarship money. So do they report it as taxable income on their tax forms or should I?

YOU must claim that as income on your return even if you are being claimed as a dependent on their return.
