The Hope Credit hasn't existed for several years. It was replaced by the AOC. An undergraduate student can claim the Hope Credit and AOC for a combined total of up to 4 tax years. For example, if the Hope Credit was claimed 1 time several years ago, the AOC can still be claimed up to 3 times.
