If you are not the student or the student is not being claimed on your tax return, then no education expenses or credits can be entered on your tax return.
I am the student; I was just wonder if I could still deduct the tuition even though it's in installments over 3 months. And not one lump sum?
If you are not being claimed as a dependent then you can enter any qualified education expenses you paid for during the tax year on your tax return while you are a student. It does not have to be a one time lump sum.
