Can I withdraw from an IRA in 2018 (penalty free) for a higher education tuition paid in 2017?
Only higher-education expenses paid in 2018 can be used as an exception to the early-distribution penalty on an IRA distribution made in 2018. Higher-education expenses paid in 2017 are not relevant to a 2018 IRA distribution.
