I am an adult college student (age 40), who for the past three years has used the American Opportunity Tax Credit. This year (2017) my 18 year old daughter will also be going to college (yes she is my dependent). Can I claim the final (4th year) for the AOTC for me, as well as year one for her?

Yes you can claim the 4th year for the AOTC for you and if you claim her as your dependent, you can claim the AOTC for her also. You may be aware that a portion of the credit is non refundable meaning that you must have a tax liability to get it. If your tax liability is relatively small, you may not have enough liability to get all of the credit that you might be eligible for for both of you.
