Can I claim my Trade school tuition without having a 1097-T? It is 9,000$ so if I am able to claim it I would like to do that but I want to make sure that I can first.

Unfortunately, a 1098-T form is required to claim an education credit on your tax return in 2018.

There are two education credits available in 2018, they are the American Opportunity Tax Credit (AOTC) and the Lifetime Learning Credit  (LLC).

Per the IRS, to be eligible to claim the AOTC or the LLC, the law requires a taxpayer (or a dependent) to have received Form 1098-T, Tuition Statement, from an eligible educational institution.
