Can a musician's dinner where $49 of it goes to scholarships, be used as a tax deduction? I'd like to know if I can use it if I had no income as a musician in 2016.

To be deductible, a contribution or donation must be made to an IRS qualified charity.

If the contribution was made directly to a public university, it would be deductible.
