Am I eligible to claim education credit for 2019 w4? I am graduating from medical school this year, and will be starting a residency, which is a salaried position.
I am graduating from medical school this year, and will be starting a residency, which is a salaried position. My tuition in medical school was paid by an outside scholarship. The scholarship also provided a taxed monthly stipend. However, I still had to take out some federal loans this year. Thanks!

Since you incurred no qualified education expenses there would be no credit.

If I purchased books etc, shouldn't that qualify as education expenses?

That is true of American Opportunity Credit which you do not qualify for, but not for Lifetime Learning Credit which is what you would be claiming.
