OUR INFO:    We paid $14,200 whole year.  My daughter is a Junior, 20years old. We earned $180,000.  We didnt avail of any scholarship/grant or Education fund. We've claimed her tuition expenses for two years now.  This is our 3rd year of claiming her tuition as expenses.

There is a $180,000 income limit to be able to claim either the American Opportunity Credit or the tuition and fees deduction. Any filers with income of $180,000 or more on a married filing jointly tax return are not eligible to receive the credit or deduction.

Correction:  our combined income is $169,500 broken down as W2= $135,000.  Business income = $48,000 but after expenses, net is $34,500.
