529 Plan

In 2020 due to COVID, my daughter had to leave campus and did not use all of the 529 money that I deducted for school.  I used it for her tuition in 2021.  How to report these funds on my 2020 income tax return?  It is approx 1100.00.  Note, to not hinder her in receiving scholarship money, I have the 529 funds put in my name and I make the payment to the school.  How do I report the excess of 1100. on my tax return or is it necessary since I used the funds to pay for college expenses in 2021?

If any of the $1,100 could count towards internet or room and board, that would be great.

The fact that you used it in 2021 would not help. If you used it in Dec 2020 to pay for 2021, then it would count and the Q would not need to be entered.

Otherwise, you will need to enter the 1098T information, the additional education costs, room and board, books, etc, then enter the 1099-Q.

See page 52 for qualified distributions at IRS Publication 970, Tax Benefits for Education.
