Schedule C: I don't have a business but I did get a 1099-MISC. What do I put for address and do I select yes or no for the 'Materially particiapte' question?

The income reported on form 1099-MISC is self-employment income and the work to do for that 1099-MISC is your "business". If you do not have a separate address for your "business", you use your personal address as the address on your Schedule C. You should say that you "materially participate in the "business".

If in your "business", you did not pay more than $600 to any sub-contractor, answer No.

I am assuming you are being asked to complete the self-employment section when you aren't self-employed.

If you are an employee and receive a W-2, you do not need to complete the sections for 1099-MISC or self-employment, but these forms may have rolled forward from last year.

This is how to delete these forms in TurboTax Online:

  1. Open your return, select Wages & Income.
  2. Scroll down to Tax Tools on the bottom of the left side menu.
  3. Select Tools.
  4. Click on Delete a form (third on the list at the bottom of the screen).
  5. Find Form 1099-MISC on the list of forms.
  6. Click Delete to the right.
  7. Confirm your Delete.
  8. Find Schedule C on the list of forms.
  9. Click Delete to the right.
  10. Confirm your Delete.
  11. Click Continue in the lower right.
  12. Click Continue with my return.

If you are using the Desktop version (disc or download):

  1. Click Forms toward the upper right corner.
  2. Find Form 1099-MISC on the list on the left.
  3. Highlight it, then click Delete in the lower left corner of the reading pane.
  4. Find Schedule C on the list on the left.
  5. Highlight it, then click Delete in the lower left corner of the reading pane.
  6. Click on Step by Step in the upper right corner to return to the interview.
