Is a firefighter a fee-based employee?

I'm assuming you get a regular wage/salary, have Fed & State W/H and probably FICA W/H.  If that is true, then you are an employee and not a fee-based.  You probably also received a W-2.

 

Examples of fee-based public officials would be county clerks or recorders who receive a fee directly from the public for each document filed or recorded, or a notary public who received a fee for each oath administered or each acknowledgement witnessed.
