I want to file for my stimulus checks

Yes, the action you will take will depend on if you received income or not during the year.

The Recovery Rebate Credit on the 2020 return is the part of the return that asks you if you received the first IEP in 2019, and then, if you received the second IEP.  It also asks you how much you received for each.

When you complete your return reporting your income and deductions, then TurboTax will calculate your Recovery Rebate Credit and adjust your refund by any additional amount you are entitled get based on the 2020 income tax return.

If you don’t normally file a tax return, you don’t need to do anything to get your stimulus payment. The IRS will base your eligibility on your last tax return, from either 2020 or 2019.

If you didn’t file a 2019 return, the IRS recommends that you file a 2020 return and claim the Recovery Rebate Credit to get your stimulus payment.

And if you receive Social Security or Disability benefits, your stimulus payment will be included with those automatically.
