I am 17 and am going to be working over the summer, I am expecting to make 3-4k. Would I still have to file taxes because I am a minor and its under the 12,000 threshold?

I currently live in AZ and this is my first job and first time ever dealing with taxes

assuming you can be claimed as a dependent (regardless of whether you are actually claimed)

You must file a Federal return if any of the following apply.
• Your unearned income was over $1,100 (example: interest or dividends).
• You had net earnings from self-employment of at least $400

• Your gross income was more than the larger of—
         • $1,100, or
         • Your earned income (up to $12,200) plus $350.

thus if the $3 to $4K is all wages (w-2) and you don't have unearned income of more than $1,100 you do not have to file a federal return

you do not have to file an AZ return unless your gross income is more than $12,550

If a W-2 employee, be sure to fill out the W-4 withholding form so that you are not having taxes withheld.

Employers are required by law to withhold employment taxes:

Even if you're not required to file a tax return, you'll want to do so in order to get a refund of any excess taxes withheld.
