To manually enter an amount on Schedule 3 Line 13z, you will have to use Forms mode.
Click on Forms
When in Forms mode, on the left side of the screen is a list of all the forms, schedules and worksheets for your tax return. At the top of list should be the 1040/1040SR Worksheet. Click on 1040/1040SR Wks to open the worksheet. With the worksheet opened, scroll down to the Schedule 3 section and on Line 13z enter the description and the amount of the Other Nonrefundable Credit.
What exactly do you want to enter on Schedule 3 line 13z? There is no way to make free-form entries on that line. The only entries that are allowed on line 13z are a credit for tax paid to the Virgin Islands from Form 8689 or a credit from an excess limitation account under IRC Section 960(c). To enter one of these credits open the "Form 1040 or Form 1040-SR Worksheet" in forms mode. Scroll down almost to the bottom of the worksheet and look at the "Other Credits and Payments Smart Worksheet between lines 12 and 13 in the Schedule 3 section. Enter the amount of the credit on the appropriate line of the smart worksheet: line C for tax paid to the Virgin Islands from Form 8689 or line F for a Section 960(c) credit. The credit will then appear on line 13z.
I am trying to enter an energy credit for Native American Tax Credit and am being advised that this (13Z) is the best place to enter it. Is there a better place where it would make sense? I found by accident that I was able to override the cell (by right clicking on the field) and make the entry and it seems to work; so maybe that is all I needed to do?
You should not use an override. An override prevents e-filing and cancels the TurboTax accurate calculations guarantee. An override can cause the automatic calculations to break in unexpected ways.
There is no "Native American Tax Credit." It's a scam pushed by various promoters or circulated on social media. Does the credit involve White River Energy Corporation in any way? They are one of the companies that have been accused of promoting the non-existent credit.
