Office addition to home

I had an addition to my house which is my home office.  Can I deduct the expense of construction of the room?

Office addition to home

Yes and no.  You cannot deduct the full expense of the addition, but the room does become a depreciable asset that you will need to depreciate.  As you walk through TurboTax, you will enter this in the home office section of the business return.

As you walk through you will get to a spot that asks you about depreciation.  Here you will answer an improvement to your home.

Next you will enter the description of the addition the cost and the date.

Continue through to claim the depreciation on the home office addition.
