My depreciation is not correct. The Asset History sheet is correct but the amount reported is not correct. I cannot find where to override the amount it is taking.

The Asset History sheet is correct but the amount reported is not correct.

Are you saying that only the current year's depreciation is incorrect?  Or are you saying something else?  Please clarify.

Previous year's income tax returns and the depreciation reported may be corrected or amended.

A change in depreciation or accounting method over multiple years must be corrected with IRS form 3115.

The entry of a depreciable asset that was purchased and placed in service in the current year may be edited or corrected.

In TurboTax Online, you may edit a depreciable asset by following these directions.

  1. Down the left side of the screen, click Federal.
  2. Down the left side of the screen, click Wages & Income.
  3. Click to the right of Self-employment income and expenses.
  4. At the screen Your self-employed work summary, click the pencil icon to the right of the self-employment activity.
  5. Click the pencil to the right of Assets.

I don't know how to reply to you.  This is for JamesG1.  My asset listing shows the correct depreciation for each year of depreciation for the asset.  My asset in the step by step depreciation shows the wrong depreciation.  Why is the depreciation different between the asset listing and the actual depreciation claimed on the return?  The asset listing is correct for every year.  This year's depreciation claimed on the return is wrong.  I don't know how to describe it any clearer.  This problem includes four assets that are not correct.

It would be helpful to have a TurboTax ".tax2025" file to research this experience further. If you would be willing to send us a “diagnostic” file that has your “numbers” but not your personal information, please follow these instructions:

  1. Open your return and go to Online in the top menu, then choose "Send Tax File to Agent." On a Mac computer, choose Share or Help >> Send to Agent.
  2. You will see a message explaining what the diagnostic copy is.  Click okay through this screen and then you will get a Token number.
  3. Reply to this thread with a screenshot of your Token number (this avoids Community filters for numbers with a dash) and tag (@) the Expert requesting the token from you.
  4. Please include any States that are part of your return - this is VERY important.

We will attempt to determine the cause of your experience and possibly provide you with a resolution.

My file is not correct.  I cannot use individual instructions on a business program.  I also cannot follow instructions to send a file because I don't understand them.  I have created a file but I don't understand how to send the token.  For what it is worth, the token number is

123145689542087-90824430.

I am looking at your return now. Are you saying that the asset reports in the forms are correct but the asset calculated in the step-by-step version is incorrect? Also, which four assets are not correct so I can troubleshoot further.

My depreciation is not correct. The Asset History sheet is correct but the amount reported is not correct. I cannot find where to override the amount it is taking.

I thought I replied yesterday!  And I have to sign in multiple times a day.  This is getting old.  I have had three experts and none appear again.  My Asset Life History does not agree with my asset entry worksheet and the asset entry worksheet is controlling the depreciation on the tax return.  The Asset Life History is correct.  I need to have the Asset Life History to be the correct depreciation on the return.  My brother in law is getting ansty about getting his K1.  And I need a way to get back to the expert who is helping me.

Can you please help?

My depreciation is not correct. The Asset History sheet is correct but the amount reported is not correct. I cannot find where to override the amount it is taking.

The four assets that are not correct are the Machine Shed bout in 2012, The Shop Gutters bought in 2012, the Grain Bin Fan bought in 2014, and the Sweep Aulgur bought in 2021.

Please help.

My depreciation is not correct. The Asset History sheet is correct but the amount reported is not correct. I cannot find where to override the amount it is taking.

We have reviewed the assets we were able to identify in the diagnostic copy of your return. We could determine that the 2021 Sweep Aulgur showed the discrepancy you described between the Asset Life History and the Current Depreciation deduction. (Due to the sanitization process creating the token return, descriptions are obscured so we have to rely on the year of the asset. The 2014 Grain Bin Fan reported the correct depreciation deduction.)

You resolve the depreciation deduction issue using Forms Mode in TurboTax Business.

  1. Open your return and click the Forms icon in the TurboTax Business header.
  2. In the list of Forms in My Return on the left, scroll down and look for Asset Entry Wks (Sweep Aulgur)
  3. Click the form name to open it in the large window.
  4. Scroll down to Prior depreciation under Regular Tax. This yellow box should show 1,713.
  5. In this box, type in the Prior Depreciation from the Asset Life History for 2025 (should be 2,535).
  6. Confirm the Depreciation Deduction below the box matches the amount on the Asset Life History.
  7. If you need to revise other assets, repeat steps 2 - 6.
  8. Click Step-by-Step in the header to return to the main screens.
