My 2018 federal schedule 1 line 36 "Adjustments to Income" total is not being carried back to the 1040 form.

I made an after tax contribution to an HSA and am looking to deduct that from my income.  This amount ends up on line 25 of federal schedule 1 from from 8889 which then ends up in the total on line 36 of schedule 1.  But this amount is not being subtracted from my income.

I assume you meant to say that the amount is *not* being subtracted from your income.  To confirm, are you saying that the amount from line 36 of schedule 1 is not being subtracted from line 6 of Form 1040 to obtain the amount on line 7 of Form 1040?

Yes, you are correct.  I meant to the amount is *not* being subtracted from my income since this amount is not being carried back to Form 1040.

My 2018 federal schedule 1 line 36 "Adjustments to Income" total is not being carried back to the 1040 form.

I can't imagine why the amount on Schedule 1 line 36 would not be subtracted from the amount on Form 1040 line 6 to produce the amount on line 7.

I suggest looking at the TurboTax's 1040 Worksheet where all of the calculations are actually done, with the results simply transferring to the corresponding lines on Form 1040..  If you are using the online version, you can view this by clicking Tax Tools ->Tools -> View Tax Summary -> Preview my 1040, otherwise view it in forms mode.

Ok.  Thanks!  You are correct.  I missed it because the number from schedule 1 line 36 does not appear on the Form 1040 line 6 like schedule 1 line 22 does.  The calculation is correct but the number does not appear on Form 1040.  Again, thanks for your help!
