k1 rental losses not flowing through to a schedule e and therefore not generating a form 8582

I have about 12 K1s from real estate investments. The rental activity nets to a loss. Turbo tax is taking that against my other income. They are passive losses so that is incorrect. Turbo tax no longer has the question do I participate materially so that it would know to limit my losses to my income and carryover the rest. They are not flowing through to a schedule E and therefore not to a form 8582.  I have put all the income and losses for each investment into line 2. I even had a Turbotax Expert on the phone for an hour and they can't figure it out.

They are not flowing through to a schedule E

Did you indicate you are a Real Estate Professional?  Or do you "Actively Participate" and is your Modified Adjusted Gross Income under $150,000?

Are you saying they are not flowing to page 2 of Schedule E?  Look at page 2, not page 1.  Each K-1 should show up on Line 28 of Schedule E.

On line 28 of Schedule E, look at columns (g), (h), (i) and (l).  Which columns are the amounts showing up in?

No schedule e is generating at all.  I entered all my k1s which were checked by Turbotax expert but no Schedule e was generated. i had orignally checked no to are you a real estate professional when i entered k1s. Well that question is no longe showing up on all the k1s I enetred and if go to add a new k1 it is not showing up as a question.

How are you determining that no Schedule E is generating?  Have you printed out the tax return?

Are you using the junky online version, or are you using the much-better desktop/downloaded version?

Because turbotax expert jumped on remotely to look at my filing. Also you can search for form to add form an it and shows no information already in it.

I would like to take a deeper look at this. However, I need a diagnostic file which is a copy of your tax return that has all of your personal information removed. You can send one to us by following the directions below:

TurboTax Online:

  1. Sign into your online account.
  2. Locate the Tax Tools on the left-hand side of the screen.
  3. A drop-down will appear. Select Tools
  4. On the pop-up screen, click on “Share my file with agent.”
  5. This will generate a message that a diagnostic file gets sanitized and transmitted to us.
  6. Please provide the Token Number that was generated in the response.

TurboTax Desktop/Download Versions:

  1. Open your return.
  2. Click the Online tab in the black bar across the top of TurboTax and select “Send Tax File to Agent” *
  3. This will generate a message that a diagnostic copy will be created.  Click on OK and the tax file will be sanitized and transmitted to us.
  4. Please provide the Token Number  (including the dash) that was generated in the response.

*(If using a MAC, go to the menu at the top of the screen, select Help, then, “Send Tax File to Agent”)
