Is it possible to use the .2015tax or 2015 pdf file to populate my 2017 return? Will the depreciation for my business equipment be correct?

I have used TurboTax for many years and have always saved the .tax and pdf files. For reasons I cannot fathom the .2016tax and 2016 pdf files have gone missing.  I have all the previous years files.

You'll need to be sure to add your assets to the software, entering the date placed in service and verifying depreciation to date, to make sure you've selected the same asset categories. Your 2015 pdf file will have all of this information in your depreciation worksheets.

For 2016, you can get a copy of your tax transcript from the IRS here: https://www.irs.gov/individuals/get-transcript

This won't have your depreciation worksheets, but for any assets that you began using during the year, they will be detailed on form 4562, behind your schedule C or E.

Only the 2016 tax data file can be transferred to the 2017 tax return.  File extension .tax2016
