Did the IRS change something on Schedule 8812 first?
That indicates that you entered information regarding the child tax credit that does not agree with the IRS records of what was sent to you for the advance child tax credits. Did you receive monthly CTC payments between July and December last year? When you were asked on your tax return how much you received did you enter the total amount that you received? The IRS sent letter 6419 to you for that. if you filed a joint return then they sent a letter to each of you with half the amount on EACH letter, so you had to add it together.
Check your online account with the IRS to see how much the IRS says they sent to you. And check your bank account for the payments of $300 or $250 per month between July and December to see how much you received in total.
If you answered the questions about the CTC incorrectly, it put an incorrect amount on line 28 of your tax return and the IRS has to correct your mistake and adjust your refund.
