If I am legal guardian of a minor can I claim them as my child, or do i have to select other?

when selecting other he does not qualify for the child tax credit. I thought there were deductions available for legal guardianships?

Assuming that the child lived with you more than half of the year you can claim him as a dependent and if otherwise qualified claim the child tax credit. You may be answering questions about the dependency wrong. See if you get the credit when you check that he is your son.
