I started a side LLC in '17 with a negative net profit (more expense than income). I am still fully employed by a company. Can I still use the free version of TurboTax?

No, since you have more sophisticated and complicated taxes due to the side business you should be using Turbo Tax Self-Employed to make sure the correct forms and calculations are done, especially since you have a loss from your side business: https://turbotax.intuit.com/personal-taxes/online/
