File all 3 years today, that's my advice. This is relatively simply for 1120 C corporation tax, so don't be overwhelmed. C corps are required to file each year, even if they have no income or tax due, so it's a good idea to be starting on it. You'll need the TurboTax Business software for desktop to prepare Form 1120, or use the IRS fillable forms to print and mail: 2024, 2023. This site can tell you where to mail Form 1120.
Do 2025 in the software first 1) because it's due today and 2) it'll provide an example to copy off of for preparing the other returns.
2023 - Place your startup expenses total amount (if any) on the balance sheet Schedule L as an intangible asset. Do not take amortization expense. If you don't have these records anymore, file with 0's (blank return).
2024 - Place your startup expenses total amount (if any) on the balance sheet Schedule L as an intangible asset. Do not take amortization expense. If you don't have these records anymore, file with 0's (blank return).
2025 - Did you have customers or orders or other potential to generate revenue this year?
If you started business activity, you can deduct your startup expenses and carry them over to the next year as a Net Operating Loss. (Just enter the business expenses without income, and the software will handle it.) You would also be able to take amortization expense from the first 2 returns if you had customer activity. You can find this in the Business Assets and Depreciation menu in TurboTax.
If you did not have revenue generating / customer activity this year, just place your expenses on the balance sheet as an intangible asset called 'Startup Costs' and do not take amortization.
I would recommend you extend the 2025 C corporation tax return, as once you prepare the prior three years returns there could be an impact on 2025. This way you would not need to amend 2025.
You will still need to estimate any tax liability and pay this in to have a valid extension.
