If the 1099-NEC indicates it was for 2021, the IRS will be looking to account for it.
If you think this is in error, I suggest you contact the company to confirm it's accuracy.
You stated that you worked for the company. If you were an employee and not a private contractor, you should have received a W-2. The exception to this would be a distribution that you received that was other than wages.
