I'm the personal representative of an estate that has income over $600 but haven't done distributions yet, do we need to file a 1041 and a K1 for 2016 and if so how?

Make sure you have a conversation with the Attorney on the Estate if there is one.  Generally, you get an EIN from the IRS, and then you may have a fiscal year. 1041, then will tax income earned on assets not distributed to beneficiaries.

You may have expenses related to the estate that is deductible on the From 1041. You may or may not have K-1's.

The 1041 cannot be completed in the regular 1040 edition of TurboTax.  You must use TurboTax business software.
