I havn't filed yet. Why am I asked for 14 digits (which I bought from Costco) when the 14 digits are offered in grey and can't be selected???

The 14 digit license code is only for tax year 2019.  TurboTax does not support tax year 2019.

TurboTax supports tax years 2020 thru 2023 which require a 16 digit license code.

Something doesn't make sense.  What year is it for?  When did you buy it from Costco?   The CD or Download?  When is it asking for the License Code?  Have you installed it yet ?  You would have  had to buy 2019 back in 2020 from Costco 4 years ago.  

As answered above the 14 digit License Code was only used in 2019.  Starting in 2020 it is a 16 digit code.  You can't install or reinstall or update 2019 anymore. They only support the last 3 years and took off 2019 when they moved 2022 to the past year section. And 2019 was the first year they started using the License Code to activate the program so it has to log into Turbo Tax. You can't activate it now. It will fail.
