Are you an independent contractor paid with a 1099-Misc?

If so, you should file as self-employed on Schedule C.  That way you can claim your business expenses against the income.

If you have no business expenses you can just report the 1099-Misc income.

Either way you report the income in the 'Income & Expenses' section as  'Self-employment income'.
