If you used the 2023 TurboTax Easy Extension to e-file an extension request then you should sign onto your TurboTax online account with the same User ID you used for the extension to start and complete the 2023 tax return - .https://myturbotax.intuit.com/
You just prepare and file them as you normally would. If you requested an extension the IRS already knows it. You do not have to enter anything else about it on your tax return, except you do need to check and make sure that the estimated payment you made was entered.
When you requested your extension you were supposed to pay your estimated tax due. Did you enter the payment you made into your tax return? Go to Federal>Deductions and Credits>Estimates and Other Taxes Paid>Other Income Taxes
You have until October 15, 2024 to e-file your 2023 return. After that, e-filing will close down and returns will have to be filed by mail.
Hi annekillefer,
The process for filing your 2023 taxes with an extension is the same as if you did not file an extension. The only difference is if you owe tax when you file the return and you did not file an extension, there is a late filing penalty in addition to any late payment penalties.
If you haven't filed your 2023 tax return yet, with the extension, you have until 10/15/2024 to file. Just log on to www.turbotax.com and sign in.
Thanks for participating in TurboTax's Ask the Expert event today. I hope this information was helpful!
Sincerely,
Kimberly, CPA for over 30 years
