If the loss is from self-employment income, you would need to update your self-employment income entries and on the screen that says Your (name of business) Business, choose the Special Situations option under Final Details. On the next screen choose the option that says I have passive activity losses carrying over form 2024. On the next screen you can enter your loss carryforward.
For a rental property, update your Property Profile on the screen that says Review your (name of rental) Rental Summary. Work through that section until you come to a screen that says Do any of These Situations apply to this Property? The last section says Carryovers, and that is where you can enter your loss carryover from the previous year.
Thanks but it’s not from self-employment.
I found a workaround. TT online was skipping form 1116 because our foreign tax paid was less than $600 MFJ.
I edited a 1099-DIV to have foreign taxes over $600. Then TT Online took me through the full dialog for form 1116 and I was able to enter the passive loss carryover.
Then I edited the 1099-DIV again to correct the foreign tax paid amount. Then TT kept form 1116 with the correct foreign taxes values and the carryover.
it would have been nice if TT had given me the option to fill out and submit form 1116 even though it wasn’t required.
Thank you for sharing your workaround. Alternatively, you can find the screens for Form 1116 by:

Thanks. That’s the normal way. However when foreign tax paid is less than $600 MFJ, form 1116 is not required and TT Online completely skips it.
In a test, with a carryover of a credit and none taken for 25, it is still a form that is required for filing.
If Form 1116 is there, then it was populated and will be e-filed with your return. A test was done and the form populated correctly. If you want to submit a token and we will review your entries.
