Form 1116 error check wants a country entered in part 1, line 1 column 'A' even though all the correct data using 'various' is reported correctly in column 'B'.

If 'various' is entered in all lower case it correctly goes into col 'B'; if 'Various' is entered with upper case 'V' then all data goes to col 'A' incorrectly. Strange.

Form 1116 error check wants a country entered in part 1, line 1 column 'A' even though all the correct data using 'various' is reported correctly in column 'B'.

If you carefully go through your input, the dropdown box shows "Various" with the first letter capitalized followed by the rest of the word in lower case. This will seamlessly flow through to the form without any error check and without any numbers showing up on Column B.
