Deceased spouse received 1099-C for tax year 2025

Hi, My wife passed away in February of 2025 and she was the sole creditor on a credit card. The credit card company sent a 1099-c in the mail, addressed to her (but at my address, dated 11/24/2025).

We have a trust and my attorney says on the date of our death all her assets go into the trust and her estate is not probated (because of the trust). I started to file our 2025 tax return and was going to file it joint married and head of household. Do I need to include the right off amount on the tax return? If so which form do I file it on?

It is my understanding that when a spouse passes away then there is no liability for the surviving spouse b/c the debt is not in their name, is that true?

Thanks

You will not need to include the 1099-C in your return.  It may need to be reported in her estate's return on Form 1041.  I am sorry for the death of your wife.
