Cannot locate Schedule 1-A in turbo tax

With online TurboTax you do not have direct access to any of the forms or schedules.   You do not have to locate the 1A----if you are entering information that belongs there, the software will put it on schedule 1A for you.  What are you trying to enter?   Senior deduction---it is automatic.   Car interest?  Tips? When you enter these, the deduction ends up on Form 1040 line 13b.

Cannot locate Schedule 1-A in turbo tax

Schedule 1-A is generated if you are eligible for an Additional Deduction, such as No Tax On Tips,  No Tax On Overtime or the Additional Senior Deduction.

The total of this schedule (Schedule 1-A)  flows to line 13b on your 1040 Federal return.

To preview your Form 1040 Tax Return using TurboTax Online, please select Tax Tools on the left side bar, then TOOLS from the drop-down that opens

(you may need to play with the scroll bar on the left side to see these options)

Next, select "View Tax Summary" on the Tools Center Screen

On the left side bar you can find "Preview my 1040"

Select "Preview my 1040"

If using TurboTax Desktop, simply switch to FORMS located at the top right corner (left on MAC)

Cannot locate Schedule 1-A in turbo tax

Are you using the online or desktop version?  If you are using the online version, you will need to go to the print center and select all forms and worksheets.  But, if you did not yet enter the interest in the interview mode you will not find Schedule 1-A.

Schedule 1-A will not be generated until you enter information that will make it pop up.

You can enter your car loan interest by selecting the following:

  1. Deductions and credits
  2. Cars and Other things you own
  3. Start next to Car Loan Interest
  4. You will need to enter the VIN and information from the lender

In order to claim this interest the following criteria must be met:

  • The car was purchased not leased
  • Final assembly occurred in the US
  • It is NOT a business use, but was purchased for personal use
  • It has a GVWR of less than 14,000lbs (car, truck, SUV, mini van or motorcycle)
  • Loan was originated in 2025 and must be secured by a lien on the vehicle or the title
  • Your income must be less than $100,000 if single or $200,000 if married filing jointly to receive the full deduction.
  •  If your income is over $150,000 if single or $250,000 if Married filing jointly, you are not eligible

Note:  The interest deduction is capped at $10,000.  This is an above the line deduction, not a credit meaning it will lower your AGI and taxable income.  It will not be an amount that is refunded to you, but it could result in a refund by lowering your taxable income.

If you are using the Desktop version and in forms mode, you can either do a search in the upper left hand corner to find the forms or you can take the steps above which will generate Schedule 1-A if you qualify for the deduction.

I am using home and business desktop and I am having the same issue.   I don't see it in as an available schedule.   In my case my age should have triggered the senior deduction, but is did not.

@BAJuliano What is your filing status?   If you are filing MFS you are not eligible for the senior deduction.   Or if you are single and your income was over $75,000 it phases out.

You say you are using desktop Home and Business.  You should be able to go to Forms mode and see 1A.

@BAJuliano   Go to Forms and open the 1040/1040SR.  Is there anything on line 13b?

If you aren’t getting the new Enhanced Senior Deduction on Schedule 1-A which goes to 1040 line 13b  these should be the only reasons…

Check your date of birth under My Info

Check if your ssn is checked for NOT valid for employment under My Info

If you are married you have to file a Joint return not Separate

Is your AGI over 175,000 Single or 250,000 Joint?

@BAJuliano   I have Home & Business too on Windows.  I made  you a screen shot.  IF it's not in the list in the left column go up to Open Form
