Absolutely.  When you're doing your Michigan return - after you have entered the K-1 in your federal return - there is a section for "Income that Michigan handles differently".  You will find the FTE addition there and it will allow you to enter any payments made on your behalf as well.

The initial response I received said Turbo Tax could absolutely handle the FTE deduction addback and FTE credit, however, the input lines which were referenced on the response do not exist.  This was pointed out by another user as well.

Will Turbo Tax update their software to handle this item which is common with K-1's?

Yes, you can enter MI tax withheld from a flow-through entity that was reported to you.

  1. Open your return and navigate to Wages & Income >> Deductions & Credits >> Estimates and Other Taxes Paid >> Estimates >> State estimated taxes for 20XX.
  2. Add another payment.
  3. Choose Michigan from the drop-down, enter the date paid, and the amount.
  4. Continue to view the confirmation page, then click Done.

This entry will be reported on the MI Tax Payments Worksheet under Tax Payments for the Current Year and flow to Form MI-1040 Line 32.

Although this work-around omits the K-1 reporting, you will report the state tax paid on your behalf to reduce your state tax liability (if any). We are not aware of any changes in the software for this issue before the filing deadline.

The Michigan return must be paper filed because of the FTE credit. Is it possible to e-file my federal return and print a copy of my Michigan return for paper filing?

What I want is to be able to print a paper copy of my Michigan return. I am ready to e-file my federal return, and the online instructions say to delete the Michigan return if I don't want to e-file the Michigan return. Well, I don't want to delete the Michigan return, I want to print it, but that option doesn't seem available. How do I print my Michigan return so I can paper file it?

Yes, you can e-file your federal return and mail your state return. There is no need to delete your state return.

Once your federal return has been accepted by the IRS, follow these steps:

  1. Sign into TurboTax Online.
  2. On the Your 2025 federal return was accepted! page, open Your tax returns & documents, and then select 2025.
  3. Select Add a state to reopen your return.
Note: If you've already started your state return, you can select Continue your return in the state tax return box.
  4. Select State from the menu.
  5. On the Let's get your state taxes done right screen, select Continue.
  6. Click the File tab.
  7. Check the box for File by Mail.
  8. Look for "Print my state to file by mail."
  9. Complete, Print and Mail by following the instructions.
