To go to the area to enter your K-1 directly, simply follow these steps:

  1. Sign into your account and select your return
  2. Select the search box on the upper right and type in K1
  3. Select Jump to K1

If this does not work, you have a second option to retrieve this area:

  1. Sign into your account and select your current return
  2. Select My Account in the upper right and the select Tools
  3. Select Topic Search
  4. Search K1
  5. Select k-1 then select Go

I have a K-1 1041 with fiscal year ending 05/31/2020 (according to IRS has to be reported by 10/31/2020).  I would like to include this on my current return instead of filing an amended return, but keep getting the message to file this on next years' return.  This is incorrect as I just checked with the IRS.  Please advise how to get around this software glitch.

Double-check the dates at the top of your K-1.

Your only options are

  • to file your 2019 tax return on time followed by an amendment when you receive the K-1, or
  • to file an extension and wait for your Schedule K-1 for fiscal year ending 5/31/2020.

From page 8 of the Form 1041 Instructions: File the 2019 return for calendar year 2019 and fiscal years beginning in 2019 and ending in 2020. If the return is for a fiscal year or a short tax year (less than 12 months), fill in the tax year space at the top of the form.

Also, Form 1041 with fiscal years must file by the 15th day of the 4th month following the close of the tax year. In your case of May 31, that would mean September 15.

Thank you for your reply.  Yes, I calculated the 4  months wrong.  You are correct with September being the correct month.  I have the K1 and would like to just include it in my personal return I am sending in this week, but TurboTax keeps kicking it out :(
