Arizona Form 323 is a little messed up

I tried to enter information on Arizona Form 323 (Tax Credit for Private Schools). In part 1, it starts with a section to enter a school name, address, and date of the contribution, but no place for the amount donated. I can enter data there. After that is a section to enter contributions for Private School Tuition Organizations. This is where you can enter information for a tuition organization along with an amount. I cannot enter anything there. How is one supposed to put in the individual amounts? The official state form does not have that first section where you list individual schools, so I don't know why TurboTax has that.

I am going to add some screen shots to help. You will have to add supporting statements and override as I have noted in the pictures.

You need to enter your contributions to a Private School Tuition Organizations, in your Arizona return.  In the interview there is a question to select School Tax Credit, and mark the box for "I donated to an Arizona private school by April 15, 2026."

After this you will add the information for the school and at the bottom, you can enter the date and amount of the donation.

I normally enter things through forms directly. When I try Step-by-Step now, it assumes that everything is ready to be filed. How do I get back into Step-by-Step entry of data?

Select Step by Step - using top right or view then select step by step. You have two choices to enter the form:

  • Step by step
  • Forms method: Open form 323
    1. Part 1 Current year's credit has a chart with gray boxes,
    2. enter the school name in that chart (above the gray boxes). As you add schools, more lines are unlocked.
    3. It fills in the nice abcde columned chart below it.
    4. Go to the chart below showing the schools and contributions and override to enter the dates.

Ok I brought up Form 323 and went to "Tools" > "My Tax Data". I selected the first entry for the form in the list and clicked on "Jump To Interview". Nothing happened. So how do I get into "Interview".

You must switch out of forms mode to get into the interview mode. If you are using windows, select view, then step by step.

If I select Step-by-Step in View, there is no "Forms Method".

Arizona Form 323 is a little messed up

I got a little confused by your answer a few replies up. Getting out of Forms Mode and trying Step-by-Step does not work. It assumes I am ready to file and won't let me go through the Interview process. By the way, this is not a school but a Private School Tuition Organization which is one thing that is confusing as to why something must be entered in that first block. If I am in Forms Mode and I enter something in the School Name list (Name, Address, MM/DD of the 2025 contribution) and then try to enter something in the next block (Private School Tuition Organizations), the fields are not enabled. However, I can enter a total amount in Line# 5. So this is why I say this form does not make sense.

There is a corresponding issue with Form 348. I cannot enter any data there as well. Except I can enter a date in the first box, but no name or amount and nothing below that.

Thank you Amy. That did the trick. I was able to enter everything that corresponds to what should be there. The numbers now match my calculations. I will have to remember that override option for next year if similar issues arise.
