What amount paid to my college for 2018 "box" do I put as the amount turbo tax is asking for? Is it Box 1 + Box 5= total or just Box 1 or just Box5?

When entering your form 1098-T, the amount of tuition paid to your college is in box 1 only. The amount in box 5 is scholarships and should be entered in box 5 of the TurboTax form.

However, if the amount reported in box 1 is not exactly what you actually paid to your college, you can change it.

Under box 1, on the 1098-T screen is a blue link: What if this is not what (student name) paid to this school? Click on that and you will be given a chance to enter what was actually paid in 2018 (see attached screenshot).
