As a private tutor I have a sole proprietorship. Do I need a 1099 from my families (NOT businesses) who pay me more than $600 in a year?

One family paid me around $10,000 this year. In past years I have simply reported the income as revenue for my sole proprietorship.

Forms 1099 aren't necessary.  As you suggest, those forms are normally issued by business or governmental entities.  Just be sure to keep good records of the income you've received.
