@trw6142 - let's back up a little bit.
1) your communication with the IRS is confidential between you and the IRS. TT gets NOTHING from the IRS.
2) can you please reexplainw what happened? $2800 is coincidently the same number as the 3rd stimulus of $1400 per person.
3) did you receive the 3rd stimulus in the March - May , 2021 timeframe?
4) what is on Line 28 of Form 1040?
you were eligible for EITHER the 3rd stimulus or the Recovery Rebate Credit on your 2021 tax return, but not both.
5) what prompted you to submit an amendment? what was wrong on the original return? amendments are taking a good 6-9 months for the IRS to process from the time you mailed it in.
6) Not filing in 2020 has nothing to do with whether or not you received the 2021 Recovery Rebate (line 28), so can you please explain what 2020 has to do with 2021?
we'd like to help, but what you posted is pard to follow. Please explain again and answer my questions. then we can sort this out.
Just some general info ... the advance stimulus payments were exempt from IRS grabs for prior year unpaid taxes but the credit on the return was not. So if you owed on the 2020 return (even if you didn't file the IRS knows if you owe or not even if they have not sent out a bill yet) they could have taken the 2021 refund to satisfy the debt.
