Can I amend federal return before file state return so that I don't have to amend state tax return later?

I have already filed federal tax return for 2019 but not state income tax return. I just found out that using itemized deduction would save much more money in state tax even federal tax is a little higher. Can I amend federal return now and then file state return so I don't have to amend state tax later?

Yes, you can amend your federal before filing your state so you don't have to amend your state.  You will need to print and mail your federal and it can take up to 16 weeks for the IRS to process your return.  The amended form cannot be e-filed.

To amend just your federal click Federal>>Other Tax Situations>>Start next to Amend a return which is under the Other Tax Forms near the bottom
