I have already filed and received my 2016 taxes.Now I have received a 1099 that was forgotten about.How do I go about amending this?

Would it be best to go ahead and take care of this immediately or just handle when I file my 2017 taxes. Also can it be done online?

Yes, you can amend your 2016 tax return to by adding the 1099 however you would not file the 1099 on your 2017 tax return.  You are required to file the 1099 in the tax year that is listed on the form. 

TurboTax will allow you to start and complete the amendment online but you will have to print and mail in the amendment because the IRS does not allow amendments to be electronically filed.
