Will the amend tax return option notify you if you claim somthing twice?

Unfortunately, it will not. Amended returns are treated as two separate tax returns by the IRS so if you claimed something on the original return, and then claim it on the amended return, the amended return will accept the amount. Check your original once against the amended before sending in the amended.
