Since you are "amend" (amending) your taxes, I'm assuming your original return was filed on time. So, no penalties there.
Depending on why you are amending, if refund, No.
If you owe additional tax, maybe. The only penalties that might apply (if any) are underpayment of tax and possibly failure to pay tax timely. Those are dependent on amounts and timing.
If your original return was filed timely, there would be NO failure to file on time penalty.
You can't amend unless your return was already filed. What is the e-file status of your return right now? That link will tell you how to check it.
If you attempted to e-file yesterday and your return was rejected, you have until 04/23 to get your return e-filed and accepted or have it postmarked if you are unable to e-file. Please see this FAQ.
