Filed for my 2020 taxes with my wife using ther free edition on Feb 3rd. Got two emails one stating that my IRS return has been accepted that day, Feb 3rd. Then a second email saying my State return has also been accepted on Feb 4th. Come to find out today, Feb 5th, that the amount of money that we were "supposed" to receive from filing our taxes was instead taken out of our bank account. What is the reason for this? I've read this article here. I didn't receive any emails regarding anything that was mentioned in the link. I've checked my spam and my garbage in my email looking for anything that has to do with money being taken out and I don't have any. What gives? Why was the money for the amount we were "supposed" to receive from filing our taxes taken out of our bank account? And no we've not received our tax refund yet if that helps. I know how long that usually takes to receive the refund.

Turbo tax only would take money out of the account if you used a paid version, otherwise, the money must have been deducted by the IRS.
You will need to contact them directly to discuss with them the reason they took the money out of your account, you can reach them by clicking here.
You must have had a tax due not a refund. Check your returns.
1040 Line 21a is a refund
line 23 is a tax due.
What is the description on the bank debit? Maybe you had a tax due on one return and a bigger refund on the other. But at the end Turbo Tax shows you the net combined amount of federal and state so overall it was a refund.
